  • ROI is (Revenue minus Spend, divided by Spend) times 100, expressed as a percentage. A campaign that cost £5,000 and generated £18,000 in revenue has an ROI of 260%, meaning it returned £2.60 for every £1 spent on top of getting the original pound back.

  • Ideally, revenue you can actually attribute to that specific spend, through UTM tracking, a CRM, or a platform's own conversion reporting, not total company revenue for the period. If your tracking can't separate this out yet, that's usually the first thing worth fixing before trusting any ROI number.

  • It depends heavily on the channel and the margin on what you're selling, so there's no universal target. As a rough anchor, many businesses treat 200% to 500% ROI as healthy for paid channels once tracking is solid, but a low-margin product needs a much higher ROI to be worthwhile than a high-margin service does.
