Cost Per Lead Calculator

Cost per lead on its own is a thin number: a channel with a low cost per lead but a poor close rate can easily cost more per customer than one with a higher cost per lead. This works out both, plus the revenue those leads are actually worth.

Cost per lead

£25

Which works out to £125 per actual customer, once you factor in your close rate.

  • Cost per lead is spend divided by the number of leads, full stop. Cost per customer factors in your close rate too, spend divided by the number of leads who actually became paying customers, which is usually the number that actually matters for deciding whether a channel is worth the spend.

  • It depends entirely on your average order value and close rate, so there's no fixed benchmark worth quoting. A £50 cost per lead is expensive for a £200 product and cheap for a £20,000 one. Judge it against cost per customer and the revenue per lead, not the raw cost-per-lead number in isolation.

  • Tighter targeting first, phrase and exact match instead of broad, dedicated ad groups, and a real negative keyword list, since broad match is the single most common cause of an inflated cost per lead. After that, landing page relevance and offer clarity usually move the number more than creative tweaks do.
